When it comes to Bollywood music, one name that pops up in everyone’s mind is, Arijit Singh. His songs not only touch our hearts but soothe our souls also. We all remember him for every jewel of a song he made, but what most of us don’t know is the backstory of the legendary playback singer.

Born in Murshidabad to a Bengali mother and a Punjabi father, the passion for singing blossomed at a very youthful age. The journey to what he is now started at the tender age of 18 when his Guru Shri Rajendra Prasad Harjari persuaded him to participate in a reality show named, ‘Fame Gurukul’ in 2005. The future pioneer of classical singing didn’t get much appreciation by then and was eliminated at 6th position.

He couldn’t manage to win the show, but he won the hearts of millions. One such heart was of the grand director of Bollywood, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He offered Arijit to sing the song ‘Yun Shabnami’ for his next movie ‘Saawariya’. Owing to some modifications in the script, the requirement of the song diminished. The film was a mega-blockbuster but the song didn’t get the place. Arijit lost contact with Bhansali and went back home. But a ray of shine emerged when Kumar Taurani, the head of Tips, acclaimed the capabilities of Arijit’s singing. He signed Arijit for a contract, but due to some issues, the album never released. The two heart-breaking incidents are enough to shatter the dreams of a normal being, but Arijit didn’t give up.

He shifted to Mumbai in a rented house. He built his studio and began fabricating music. Hard work never goes in vain, similarly, the efforts put in by Arijit were never wasted and he got opportunities from several music directors and composers. He made his music debut with a Telugu film in 2011. His Bollywood debut was with the popular movie Murder 2’s Mithoon composed song ‘Phir Mohabbat’. He kept on adding more songs to his tally. We all know that he is a singing-sensation, and covers many famous Bollywood songs. His domain of singing in the regional languages is also highly applauded. He is what he is because of the adamantine determination and dedication he portrayed.
