Pop is the genre which includes both folk and fine art music. Pop music started its journey in the mid 1950s mid from the United states of America and united kingdom. In India, Bangladesh and Srilanka it was introduced by famous playback singer Ahmed Rushdi song “ko ko korina” in 1966. After that many Christains bands started playing American jazz in various cities in India.

Pop started gaining its popularity in India with Pakistani singer Nazia Hassan and Zohaib with their famous song disco deewane produced by Indian producer Biddu in 1981.

“Nasheelee hai raat

Haaton mein haat

Nachen sitaron ke saath”

This song was remade and used in the movie Student of the Year in 2012.

Indian pop music came to be known as indie-pop by british-indian fusion band Monsoon.

The first original pop artist of India was Remo Fernandus who sung songs in popular movies bombay city and ocean queen.

In the early 1980s various companies refused to record pop music because of which artists were forced to play instruments by themself only and had to produce music in their home production.

Many singers try to try their hands in pop but due to unpopularity of pop music they are not successful.one of those is preeti sagar who sing song yeh mera dil hai.

In the decade 1990s indie-pop started giving competition to film music of India with its own universe of music composers and singers. It had become a parallel universe of film music.

One of these singers was Alisha Chinai, the organic voice.she is one of the most known but unappreciated talents in India. Her work is remarkable but was not able to stand in front of film and classical music of India. Few of her good works are like “soyi nahi mai raat bhar”, “made in India’’.

“maine Paayal Hai Chhankaayi

ab To Aaja Tu Harjaayi”

While talking about the pop industry how can we forget about Falguni pathak. Her albums are famous not only due to her beautiful voice also because of those love stories in them.

In the late 2000s indie-pop started losing its popularity as its competition filmi music started gaining more audience. Famous pop singers start turning for Bollywood, Tollywood or regional music. But then afterwards pop again started gaining its popularity from the remixing of the songs with new beats.

Many songs such as “Nachenge Saari Raat”,”Gud Naal Ishq Mitha” are reused in Bollywood with just slight twist.

Maybe that industry is lost somewhere in the track of life but still many of its songs are still in the mind of listeners and many of them are getting recreated.it will never be truly lost.it will always be there.
