Listening to the music has always been almost everyone’s favourite timepass. No matter what generation you belong to, there is a variety of music available depending on your mood.

Music industry has grown by leaps and bounds and evolution of music is in itself a very interesting topic to understand.

The 90s, was a heady time in India. There was a lot going on. The taking off of the Liberalization, the initiation of the tech boom and the Indians waking up to a lot more choices than before. Apart from this, the 90s was also the time when indie rock bands were coming into their own platforms like MTV, Great Indian Rock festival and Rock Street Journal. This was also the time when independent artists and bands which were far away from Bollywood’s glamour, were giving great albums and singles to which the whole generation loved listening to. The 90s era had an amazing pool of talent to whose tunes we still sway to. There were some amazing artists who gave us singles which will always continue to be a a part of the golden music era. Some of the songs are, Pari hoon main, by Suneeti Rao, Deewane to Deewane hai by Shweta Shetty, Kahin Karta hoga by Anamika and Made in India by Alisha Chinoy.

Not to forget, the king of Pujabi pop sang the dance numbers which still rule the dance floors like Tunak Tunak Tum, Bolo tara ra.

Taare gin gin yaad ‘ch teri

Main taan jaagan raatan nu

Rok na pavan ankhiyan vichon

Gham diya barsatan nu

“Oh ho ho ho

Oh ho ho ho

Oh ho ho-oh ho ho ishq tera tadpave

Oh ho ho-oh ho ho ishq tera tadpave”

Taking about 90s music, and not mentioning this song is like talking about the cake without mentioning the icing!

Sukhbir’s Ishq tera tadpave and Bally Sangoo’s Gur naal ishq are some of the immensely popular punjabi tracks which all the 90s kids still love dancing to.

One of the most popular songs among the girls in the 90s was Maine Payal hai Chankai by the well known Gujarati singer Phalguni Pathak.

“maine paayal hai chhankaayi

ab to aaja tu harjaayi

meri saanson mein tu hai basa

o sajna, aaja na ab tarsa”

This song still has the heart of many girls till date!

Neeraj Shridhar with Bombay Vikings also gave songa like Soorat Hai and Woh Chali being the most played songs on many people’s playlists.

We can go on and on talking about the music in 90s but in a nut shell, the 90s music era was an era like never before for music lovers!
