Never have we seen an Indian say that he or she does not like to listen to music. Whether it comes to singing or listening, Indians have always been ahead in their love for music. The trend of music in India has grown by leaps and bounds and has encountered various significant changes.

We have a plethora of variety, when it comes to listening to music. We just had the Indian bollywood songs at first, which were obviously trending in India but some of them were so raucous and energetic that they are popular internationally as well.

Some of the songs, which made it to the heart of the international audience are :

- Awaara hoon

- I’m a Disco Dancer

- Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja

- Mera Joota Hai Japani

- Jai Ho

- Tunak Tunak Tun

- Why this Kolaveri Di

And the list can go on and on..!

Talking about International Music, it has penetrated into hearts of mostly the younger generation, giving a tough competition to the Indian music. The Indian younger generation is more inclined towards hollywood albums.

Some of the international songs which are evergreen till date among the Indian audience are:

- Cheap Thrills by Sia

- Temperature by Sean Paul

- Love the way you Lie by Eminem

- One Love by Blue

- Beautiful by Akon

- Dangerous by MJ

- Baby by Justin Bieber

- Closer by Chainsmokers

- Love story by Taylor Swift

- Lose Yourself by Eminem

Etc.

Various, other bands like the One Direction, BTS have penetrated into the hearts of youngsters and have changed the trend of music.

What differenciates Indian music from the international music is that Indian music is based on the melody played in a specific order. On the contrary, western music is based on harmony that uses tonic progressions in abundance. Another point of striking contrast is when we listen to sad and heartfelt songs in bollywood ,they are very mellow and light but on the other hand, when we listen to sad and heartfelt western music, it is most of the times very rocky and energetic. For example:

Indian romantic song : I love you from Bodyguard sounds like

“ Dil ka yeh kya raaz hai

Jaane kya kar gaye

Jaise andhero mein tum

Chandani bhar gaye

Kare chaand taaron ko mash’hoor itna kyun

Kambakht inse bhi khoobsoorat hai tu

I Love you tu ru ru yeah….”

In contrast to which, Taylor Swift’s Love story, which is also a romantic song, sounds like

“Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone

I’ll be waiting, all there’s left to do is run

You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess

It’s a love story, baby, just say, “Yes” “

It is very evident that although both the songs are romantic, the way the feel and the way they sound is very different.

The bollywood music now a days has become more American and is a blend of pop, rock, R&B and hip-hop.

Indian music creates a melodious vibe all around you when you listen to it where as, the western music freshens up your mood and makes you feel more energetic.

However, some western songs efficiently bring out the same mood and vibe as the Indian mellow songs. Some of which are, Perfect by Ed Sheeran, Someone like you by Adele etc.

Giving Indian Music a tough competition, international music has always been evergreen. But, after getting inspired from the international artists, Indian artists have also started experimenting with music and are coming up with different kinds of newly formed music in the Indian Music Industry.
